Box Score It was an impressive rally on the road agaihst a team that hadn't allowed a goal in nearly 300 minutes. Unfortunately, St. Benedict connected on a tally in the first minute of the second overtime to send the Hamline women's soccer to heartbreaking 3-2 defeat in St. Joseph Tuesday.
The Pipers (2-3-1, 0-1 MIAC) nearly pulled out their first win over the Blazers since 2007. They surrendered an early goal but that was all that hap[pened in the tight first half. When the second half began,
Mallory Wirth went to work immediately.Â
Aileen Scheibner fed the freshman, who deposited her fourth goal of the season into the net 51 seconds into the second half.
The undefeated Blazers struck back seven minutes to regain the lead but Hamline wasn't done. With 5:42 left in the second half,Â
Malya Hirshkowitz drilled a free kick home for her second goal of the season to retie the game and force overtime. The first extra session was tight with boith teams holding their defensive forts well.Â
The Blazers, however, found an opening in the first minute of the second extra session for the winner.Â
Amy Ramras had nine saves in goal for the Pipers.Â
