Box Score If the word wasn't out before, it will be now. After Saturday's 82-75 OT victory at Northwestern, a lot of people now know that Hamline women's basketball team have some very explosive players.
Senior guard
Jordan Sammons is well known already. Sammons, who leads the MIAC in scoring, had quite a game Saturday, firing in 24 points and snaring a career high 20 rebounds (two shy of the school record ands the most by a MIAC player this season). But she shared the limelight with soph
Chelsey Bonsante's career high 31 point night (which is also the most by a MIACer this season) and
Chloe Graves, who added 17. And don't forget freshman
Alex Peterson, who produced 11 key rebounds and
Emily Behrman's important four assists.
The Pipers needed all of them to subdue the Eagles on their home floor.
HU was trailing 75-74 with 1:11 left in overtime when Bonsante (pictured) sank a pair of free throws to put HU back in the lead at 76-75. After the Pipers forced a turnover, Graves delivered a three-point dagger that upped the margin to 79-75. Bonsante then sealed the deal with a steal and two more free throws as Hamline evened its mark at 2-2.
Sammons did her part early, scoring 15 points in the first half as Hamline hung tough, going to the locker room with a three point disadvantage at 40-37. In the second half, she had 11 rebounds to complement Bonsante's 19 markers. The Eagles led most of the half but the Pipers came back to grab a 66-62 edge with 3:44 left. Northwestern, however, came back in their own right to tie the game at 66 and force the extra session.
In the overtime, neither team was able to get more than a two point lead until Hamline broke free at the end of the game.
The Pipers now play their first game at Hutton Arena this season on Tuesday, November 25 against UW-Stout. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
