Hamline could not turn home ice into an advantage Saturday in a 4-0 loss to Augsburg. The Pipers, who were held without a shot on goal in the first period, fired 19 at the Auggie net. The visitors returned fire 31 times at the tandem of John Sellie-Hanson and Nick Heimer in the HU net.
Despite being outshot, 14-0, in that initial period, there were no goals scored. HU had a 9-5 edge in the middle session but it was the Auggies who struck thrice to take charge of the game.
Augsburg added a clinching goal in the third period. Anthony Wolfe (15) was the top Piper gunner with four shots on goal.
Hamline, 2-20-1 on the season (1-13 MIAC) finishes the season next weekend with a home and home series with St. Mary's. The teams play Friday night at Oscar Johnson Arena (7:05 p.m.) and wrap it up in Winona Saturday night.
