Devin Monson, a 2012 HU graduate, still can run long distance with the best of them. Monson, who runs for Adidas/Rogue Athletic Club in Texas has qualified for the 10,000 Meter race at the USA Track & Field Championships in Sacramento, CA on Thursday, June 26. 

Monson will be competing against 23 other runners, including Galen Ruppl, the American recordholder and an Olympic silver medalist. The Thompson, ND native qualified with a 29:00.23 clocking in a meet at Portland, Oregon on June 15. He finished second in that race (by less than four seconds), beating his previous best time for that distance by 37 seconds. Among the runners who were behind him: Chris Solinsky, a multiple NCAA champion and an All-American at the University of Wisconsin. 

Monson was a member of the Pipers' troika of MIAC Men's Cross Country championship teams from 2009-11. He won several individual honors in his HU career, including the 2010 MIAC CC title (see pic) , the 2011 Roy Griak Invitational and the 2012 MIAC 10,000 Meter crown. He finished third in the 2012 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the 5,000 and 10,000 Meter races.
