Just ask the Hamline men's hockey team.
The Pipers rallied from a pair of third period deficits to forge a 4-4 OT tie at UW-Stout Friday.Â
Kerry McGlynn's goal with 4:02 left capped a three-goal final frame rally as Hamline improved to 4-7-4 overall.Â
Mitch McPherson, Charlie Adams andÂ
Kevin Novakovich also scored for Hamline, which finished with a 48-36 edge in shots on goal.Â
John Sellie-Hanson recorded 32 saves in goal.
After a scoreless opening period, McPherson got the Pipers going with his eighth goal of the season just 38 seconds into the second period. The Blue Devils answered back sharply, scoring three times for a 3-1 edge entering the final period.Â
Adams took a pass fromÂ
Cody Bentzel and nailed his team leading 11th goal 4:35 into the final frame. Novakovich worked his way clear for his third of the year at 9:13 on a power play.Â
Four seconds after
Jaycob McCombs was penalized, the Blue Devils regained the lead on a power play at 12:58. The 4-3 score lasted three minutes. That is when McGlynn (pictured), who also scored the night before at UW-Stevens Point, finished oiff a three way play withÂ
Jake O'Borsky andÂ
Russ Jordan to produce the final deadlock. HU was strong offensive all night, outshooting UWS by a 12-4 margin in the third period and 5-2 in the extra session.Â
Adams led the 48 shot assault (a season high) with eight and McPherson, his linemate, added seven.
Hamline now returns to MIAC play next week. The defending postseason champs is 1-4-1 in conference play. They host Concordia next weekend in a pair of home games at Oscar Johnson Arena. Friday's game is at 7:00 p.m. with Saturday slated for a 2:00 p.m. faceoff.Â
