Jordan Reaches Double Figures in Goals For M Hockey

12/9/2016 10:04:00 PM

Box Score Russ Jordan became the first MIAC men's hockey player this season to reach double figures in goals when he scored twice Friday for Hamline in a 5-4 overtime loss to Wis-Eau Claire at Oscar Johnson Arena. The junior leads the conference in goals (11) and points (20).

Unfortunately, it was not enough in a wild affair that saw the Pipers (6-4-2) rally from a two-goal deficit to force OT before falling to the No. 6 ranked Blugolds, who are now 9-1-2 overall.

Cody Bentzel gave HU a lead midway in the first period but WEC responded with a four-on-four goal to tie the game after 20 minutes. Penalties played a major role as the visitors took a 4-2 lead after two periods. HU took three minors in the first six minutes of the second period -- and killed them all off. When HU went on the power play, Jordan picked a corner perfectly at 10:12 for a 2-1 lead. Later in the frame, however, a major penalty to Jaycob McCombs proved costly. The Blugolds scored an even strength goal and two on the subsequent power play for the lead.

The Pipers fought back in the third period. Chad Hennum took a Brady Crabtree pass and deposited the puck in the net at 9:57 to make it 4-3. Four and a half minutes later, Jordan swooped in for a loose puck to tie the game at 4.

It stayed that way until Eau Claire's Colten Wolter scored 2:08 into the extra session.

Justin Quale was a busy fellow in the Hamline goal, recording 32 saves -- nine of which came in the first five minutes of play.

Hamline is now idle until January 6 when Wis-Stout visits Oscar Johnson Arena for a 7:00 p.m. game.
