Cass Bittle, a Winona, Minn. native, had a match high 13 kills for the Pipers, who dropped a 3-1 decision to St. Mary's Friday at Hutton Arena. The 6-1 attacker (6) was particularly forceful in the second set, registering five kills in Hamline's 25-22 triumph.
Morgen Coleman supplemented Bittle with eight kills and 18 assists and
Danica Hanson (13), also honored before the match, added seven kills and hit a team high .385 for the night.
Megan Rubbelke, a freshman gave a glimpse of the future with 17 assists.
Megan Anderson topped the back wall with 20 digs while senior
Marisa Franco (11) added a dozen.
SMU led all the way for a 25-19 first set win. The second set rocked back and forth with 14 tie scores and seven lead changes before the Pipers pulled away to even the match. The third set was tight for a long while with eight tie scores and three lead changes before SMU pulled away late for a 25-16 win. The Cardinals then closed out the match with a 25-18 decision.
The Pipers fell to 3-23 overall, 0-8 in the MIAC. They will look to bounce back Saturday afternoon when they visit St. Catherine. Game time at Butler Center is 3:00 p.m.
