It is very unusual for a relief pitcher to grab the spotlight in MIAC baseball. But senior Rob Miler had the sort of week that demanded headlines. The lefty threw 10.1 innings of scoreless relief, gaining two wins in the process.
It started with a pair of innings against St. Thomas. Three days later, Rob quelled an Augsburg uprising in the fifth inning and held them hitless the rest of the way. HU scored a run in the ninth to gain the win.
On Sunday, he worked four more frames against Gustavus, giving up three hits but no runs. He was the beneficiary of a ninth inning rally that produced a victory.
As a result, Rob's ERA, which started the week at 9.00, plummeted to 2.94. He also is now 9-1 for his Hamline career.
That's some kind of relief for the Pipers, who are now 9-8 overall and 3-4 in the MIAC. Miller may be busy this week, too. Weather permitting, HU has a pair of MIAC twinbills upcoming -- Tuesday against Concordia in Collegeville and Wednesday at Midway against Bethel.
