Katie Koren is quickly becoming a threat on several fronts to MIAC opponents. The junior catcher has always had a strong arm. This year, she has gunned down 11 of 21 would be basestealers. (Among her victims was St. Thomas' Jenna Hoffman, the only time she has been nailed in 17 tries).
Katie has been picking it up at the plate as well. Last week, she went 7-for-18 and hit her first collegiate home run. The big week helped her boost her batting average 102 points to .324, the third best mark on the team. Even more impressive, perhaps, is the fact she is putting the ball in play. She has struck out just three times all season.
Katie figures to be busy this week. If the weather holds, HU has doubleheaders with St. Benedict (Tuesday in St. Joseph) and at home with St. Mary's (Thursday) and St. Olaf (Friday).
