The HU men's soccer team will take an unbeaten mark of 3-0-1 out west this weekend for games at Puget Sound and Pacific Lutheran. One of the big reasons why is Gilbert Ghong is kicking up a storm on the field.
The St. Paul, MN native got the season off on the right foot with a pair of goals in the Pipers' 2-0 season-opening win over Bethany Lutheran, August 30. Last Saturday, he scored the gametying goal as HU rallied from a halftime deficit to upend Augustana (Illinois), 2-1, in overtime. Gilbert is tied for third in the MIAC and sixth in points with six.Â
Ghong is just one goal away from tying last year's total of four goals. He is the leading returning scorer from the 2013 team that ended the year 6-10-1. Wtih an expanded MIAC playoff field (now six teams), Ghong and his teammates are focused on getting HU back to the postseason for the first time in nearly a decade.Â
