Charlie Adams felt better last weekend. As a result, Gustavus felt a lot worse. The junior transfer from Mahtomedi, Minn. scored his first two goals as a Piper and added an assist as Hamline skated to a pair of overtime ties with the powerful Gusties last weekend.
Adams (9) had been bothered with upper body issues that slowed him up the first couple weeks of the year. But he was looser last weekend, burning the Gusties for a goal 55 seconds into the MIAC conference opening game Friday night at Drake Arena. He scored again in the second period to give Hamline a 3-1 lead. The Gusties, however, rallied for a pair of third periuod goals to force the deadlock.
The next night, Adams felt a fellow Mahtomedite, Brandon Zurn, for the first Piper goal in what became a 2-2 tie. For the weekend, he had a hand in three of Hamline's five goals and was a +2. For his efforts, he became the second HU men's puckster to be named the MIAC Men's Hockey Athlete of the Week.
The Pipers have already equaled their win total from the past two seasons with a 3-3-2 overall mark (0-0-2 MIAC).
Adams and his mates have a chance to catch their breaths with a weekend off. They resume action with a MIAC home and home series against Bethel. The teams meet in Blaine, Dec. 5 and hook up the next night at Oscar Johnson Arena, Dec. 6.
