Don't let that smiling face fool you. Underneath it is the heart of a sniper who is making life miserable for opposing MIAC women's hockey goalies.Â
Kelsey Rafferty was on top of her game last weekend. The freshman winger scored in the third period of Friday's game at Augsburg to give the Pipers a 2-1 lead. Alas, it didn't hold up when the Auggies rallied for the win. The next night, Rafferty improved on her markmanship, scoring twice in the first period and adding what proved to be the winning goal in the third period in Hamline's 5-4 win. It marked the first Hamline women's hat trick in six years. It was also the fourth game in a row that the DePere, Wis. native had found the net and gave her the team lead in goals with 10.Â
She is one of just six MIAC players who are in double digits for goals this season.Â
Rafferty and the Pipers (5-16-2 overall, 3-13-2 MIAC), who have won their last two home games in a row, finish the 2014-15 season this weekend with a home and home series this weekend against St. Mary's. The teams play Friday night at Oscar Johnson (7:00 p.m.) and Saturday in Winona (2:00 p.m.)
