Like Babe Ruth used to do 100 years ago, Casey Anderson was excellent at the plate and on the mound last weekend for the Hamline softball team. The Robbinsdale, Minn. sophomore hit an impressive .667 and tossed a CG victory as the Piper split four games to open the 2015 season.Â
Hamline split a pair of games with Buena Vista, losing 3-2 and winning 6-2 on Saturday. In the lidlifter, Anderson lined a homer to left center to give HU a 2-1 lead. She also threw the final two innings in relief. In the second game, she held the Beavers to just one hit in the first six innings en route to a CG victory. At the plate, she drilled a pair of doubles and drove in three runs. The next day, she sat out the Pipers' 8-0 win over St. Scholastica but started on the mound in a 7-5 loss to UW- La Crosse. She had three hits (a double and two singles) and drove in two runs in a 7-5 loss to UW- La Crosse in Rochester.Â
Casey's batting average and 1.222 slugging percentage rank second in the MIAC. The softballers return to action March 17 at Whittier (CA).
