Taylor Martinek was really in the swim of things last Saturday. The Cresco, Iowa freshman took part in four events -- anchoring three of them -- at the St. Thomas Relays.
She started her day by being first in the pool in the 200 Co-Ed race. Taylor swam her 50 yard segment in 29.77 seconds, starting the Pipers to a seventh place finish.Â
She really kicked things into gear with a 1:02.0 clocking for 100 yards as part of the 300 Backstroke race team that finished in fourth place. That time by itself is less than three seconds from the school record set last year by Hannah Hawker.Â
After catching her breath, Taylor wsas back in the pool as the last leg for the 400 Free (sixth place) and 200 Free (11th place) efforts.
All in all, an impressive first showing for a first competitive outing. The next time, Martinek hits the pool for competition, she will find herself in friendly waters. That will be Saturday, November 7 when the Pipers host several MIAC foes at the Hamline Invite. The meet will start at 1:00 p.m.
