Timing is sometimes everything. Hamline women's hockey sophomore Melanie Bartenstein could not have picked a better time to record her first college hockey goal. The Alaskan, playing her 35th career game, broke up a scoreless tie in the third period against UW-Eau Claire last Friday afternoon at Oscar Johnson Arena. Melanie took a behind the net feed from Haleigh Bolton and slammed a shot home at 12:56 for the only tally of the game.

It lifted the Pipers to a 6-5-1 overall record. The six wins equals the total they had for the entire 2014-15 season. HU is tied for fifth place in the MIAC with a 3-2-1 conference mark. That figures to get tested when the Pipers head to Moorhead and a return to conference action with a two game series against the first place Cobbers. The teams meet Friday at 7:00 p.m. and report back to the rink Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
