Chelsey Bonsante did it with panache. The junior guard became the 10th player in Hamline women's basketball history to score 1,000 career points when she nailed a three-pointer late in the first half February 6 against St. Thomas at Hutton Arena. She hit another one at the buzzer and went on to score a game high 19 points for the pipers, who battled the league co-leaders hard before falling 76-56.
The Ironton, Minn. native leads the Pipers (and is fourth in the MIAC) in scoring with an average fo 16.1 points per game this season. She and running mate Chloe Graves have been work horses inthe back courrt asll season for the Pipers. Chelsey's 719 minutes played (an average of 34.2 minutes per game) ranks second to Chloe's 819.
It has been very productive work, too. Chelsey ranks third in the league in three-pointers with 47. She has had six 20point games with a season best of 32 at Colorado College on December 29.
The Pipers have a pair of games this week. They host Concordia Wednesday, February 10 at 7:45 p.m. at Hutton Arena. On Saturday, February 13, they travel to Gustavus Adolphus for a 3:00 p.m. game.
