Brandon Zurn had a big piece of the action Saturday night when he scored two goals and assisted on a third in the Hamline's men's hockey team 6-3 win over Gustavus Adolphus that clinched a playoff spot. But his biggest contribution was something that actually isn't on the seasonal stat chart.
The senior scored the lone goal in a shootout Friday that gave the Pipers a much needed extra point after playing to a 1-1 OT tie with the Gusties. The Mahtomedi native has been perfect in that role this year, going 3-for-3.
His three-point day upped his season total to 46 (18 goals, 28 assists), one behind his center, Charlie Adams. It also upped his career total to 116, tying him with Chris Berenguer for fifth place all-time in school history.
Hopefully, he is not done garnering points. The Pipers (9-11-5) open the MIAC postseason Thursday night at Concordia (7:30 p.m.). If they win, they head to league champ Augsburg Saturday. Last year, HU also finish fifth and then won three road games in nine days to advance to the NCAA Tournament.
Will history repeat?
