The MIAC Ourdoor Track and Field meet is still 3 1/2 weeks away. However, it is becoming increasingly clear that, when it comes to the Discus and Shot Put competitions, the man everybody will be chasing is named Chase.
That would be HU sophomore Chase Duwenhoegger, who had a remarkable three day span last week. On April 14, the Alexandria, Minn. native reared back and unloaded the shot put 53-4 1/4. That won the Tom Cat Invitational at St. Thomas and is the best effort this season by any MIAC competitor. It beat his previous best outdoor number by two feet, was nearly a foot better than his work at the MIAC Indoor Meet in March and has ranked ninth nationally in D-III.
Two days later, in a meet at Concordia, Duwenhoegger unleashed a 148-0 discus effort. That, too, is the best by any MIAC thrower this spring.Â
A year ago, as a freshman, Duwenhoegger was third in the shot put and ninth in the discus meet in the MIAC Outdoor TF meet. The way things are going this year, history may do better than repeating itself.Â
Before that, however, Duwenhoegger and the Pipers have a few meets left. The next one is Saturday, April 23 at Carleton.Â
