One ot he hardest things to do in sport is keep your team close to give them a chance to win. HU junior softballer Sarah DeMars did just that -- and was rewarded for her efforts Sunday when the Pipers rallied for two runs in the last of the 7th inning for a 3-2 win over St. Catherine.
The junior righty held her team in the game, scattering seven hits with no walks and a season high six strikeouts. The win capped a great weekend that saw Sarah even her won-loss mark at 6-6. Her overall ERA of 5.40 is the lowest it has been since the first weekend of the season.Â
The day before, DeMars was also magnificent, stifling Bethel on six hits in a CG 6-1 win. She has won four of six MIAC starts, including a no walk, six hit shutout in a 7-0 win over St. Olaf, April 10.
DeMars and the Pipers are busy again this week with three doubleheaders in four days. They play at St. Benedict and make up a postponed pair Friday at Macalester. On Saturday, April 23, they return to Meredith Field to take on St. Mary's. Hamline is 15-11 overall and currently occupies fourth place -- the final playoff spot -- with an 8-4 conference mark.Â
