Quick quiz: When is the last time you heard of the backup goalie playing in college for the first time in her career scoring three goals in a soccer game? That is exactly what happened to Hamline freshman women's soccer forward Siri Parker last Wednesday.Â
Normally a forward, Parker was listed as the backup tender in case starter Amy Ramras couldn't play because the Pipers' second goalie -- Tess Salen -- was sidelined due to injury.Â
So Parker had to wear No. 1 instead of her usual No. 13 in the opener against Wisconsin-Superior at Paterson Field. She turned out to be a nighmare for the Yellowjackets, scoring three times and and assisting on a fourth tally as HU ran UWS off the field with an impressive 10-1 victory.Â
A freshman from Anchorage, Alaska, Parker scored twice in the first half as Hamline jumped to a 5-0 lead. When she added a third goal in the second session, it marked the first time in five years a HU women's soccer player had scored three times in one game.Â
Parker held the same role Saturday in a 2-0 win over UM-Morris. She didn't score and didn't have to play goal as Ramras earned the shutout as HU moved to 2-0 on the season.
The Pipers have a pair of games this week as well -- Wednesday, September 7 at Wis-Stout and Saturday, Sept. 10 against Wis-River Falls at Paterson Field (1 p.m.). It is hoped that Salen can be cleared for net duty and Parker can get her old number back and work at following up on one of the most impressive -- and unusual -- debuts in HU history.Â
