As one of just two seniors on the HU men's cross country team, James Logan understood well in advance one of his roles this year is to be a leader. Last Saturday, running in the prestigious Roy Griak Invitational, he did just that.
The La Crosse, Wis. native was the top Piper across the finish line, using a late kick to finish in ninth place in the D-III maroon Men's Division portion of the race. James ran the 8K course in 28:19.4, a 5:42 pace.
Logan was in 17th place after the first kilometer and continued to gain ground to the finish. He ran the last 3K in a speedy 10:58. He helped the Pipers to a fourth place overall with 97 points, a mere two behind third place Wis-River Falls.
Logan and his mates have their eyes on the main prize -- the MIAC CC Championships October 29 at Como Golf Course in St. Paul. They will be back in action on October 8 when they run in the St. Catherine Invite.
