Justice Spriggs cast a large shadow over Klas Field last Saturday. The sophomore quarterback rewrote the school record book, finishing with 475 yards passing and six TD tosses in Hamline's wild 42-40 victory over Gustavus Adolphus. It was the Pipers' first win over the Gusties in a decade and lifted HU to a 3-0 start for the first time since 1988.
The sophomore slinger, who was named the MIAC Offensive Athlete of the Week for his efforts, connected three times with Josiah Harris in the first half as HU grabbed a 21-17 intermission advantage. In the second half, he found Deon Bishop, Nick Kampa and Harrison Jones in the end zone. The latter was a 28-yarder with just 1:35 on the clock. It proved to be the winning score. For the game, Spriggs was 29-for-41. His totals of 1046 yards, 708.8 percentage completed passes and average of 348.7 yards per game lead the MIAC. He is also second in TDs (10) and completions (75).
Spriggs and the Pipers will look to go 4-0 this Saturday when they visit Carleton. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
