It has been said you only get one chance to make a great first impression. New HU head tennis coach Julia Courter had to liek what she saw out of junior Brandon Kuether at last weekend's Midwest Open tournament in St. Peter.Â
Kuether was a member of the 2014 and 2015 tennis teams. He took last year off but the junior came back with style, winning three singles matches in one day in the tournament. He started with a 7-5, 6-2 decision over Grinnell's Nicholas Alex. He followed that with an even more impressive 6-0, 6-1 win over Edgewood's Jacob Huntoon and finished off his tennis hat trick with another straight decision -- 6-4, 6-3 over Sam Nettleton of Wartburg.Â
His run ended with a loss in the round of 16 to a netter from perennial MIAC tennis power Carleton.Â
Kuether also teamed up with his brother Blake, a freshman at HU, in the doubles portion of the event.Â
The results don't count in the MIAC stats but they matter to Kuether and his coach as they start to think about the 2017 season.Â
