It took more than just a solid offensive effort to bring The Hammer back to St. Paul last Saturday. The defensive work of HU lineman Mitchell Maday -- among others -- was also a key reason why the Pipers rolled past Augsburg, 35-14 to up their record to 5-3 on the season. It is the first time since 1997 that Hamline has won five football games in a season.

The sophomore had three tackles -- two of which were sacks -- as part of a defensive surge that held Augsburg to just 231 total yards for the day. The Auggies were stopped cold in the rushing department, managing just -11 yards in 18 carries.

Maday leads the MIAC with nine sacks. His 10.5 tackles for loss ranks second in the league. He also is tied for the league lead in Forced Fumbles with two.

Maday and his defensive mates now look for win No. 6 this Saturday at St. John's. The season wraps up Nov. 12 against Bethel at Klas Field. Both games start at 1:00 p.m.
