Apparently, a month off suited Taylor Martinek very well. The sophomore hit the water with a vengeance last weekend as HU participated in a pair of meets on consecutive days.Â
On Friday, the Iowan won a pair of races in dual meet against St. Benedict, taking the 200 Freestyle in 2:00.70 and then hitting the end wall first int he 100 Backstroke in 1:01.75. She also swam a leg in the 200 Yard Medley Relay.Â
The next afternoon, she took on several comers in a meet at St. Thomas. She was a close second in the 100 Backstroke. Her time of 1:01.36 was just .59 out of first place. Later, she had a season best time of 2:17.17 to finish sixth in the 200 Backstroke . With a month to go before the MIAC conference meet, Taylor has the fourth best posted time this year in the 100 backstroke (1:00.48).  Her 200 time should move her into the Top Ten this week.  Martinek and the Pipers are busy this week as well. They swim at Gustavus on Friday, January 20 and take St. Olaf and Macalester in the latter's pool the next morning.
