Last week was a big one for the Hamline women's hockey team as the Pipers won three games in four days to move within two points of first place. HU now stands 7-3 in the MIAC and 9-7-1 overall.Â
Freshman forward Bre Simon played a key role in this run, scoring the first goal in each of the games, finishing the week with four goals and three assists. On Wednesday, she ignited a three-goal second period outburst that led to a 3-1 win at St. Benedict.Â
On Friday, she opened the scoring 11:03 into the game with St. Mary's. Later, she set up Darby Dodds for two of her three goals in the 7-5 win. Â She got off to an even faster start the next afternoon, scoring two first period goals. With the game on the line, she knocked the puck free and drew an assist on Dodds' empty net goal that sealed the 4-2 win.Â
The Elk River, Minn. native leads the MIAC with 22 points and is tied for the goal scoring lead with 13.Â
The Pipers are back on the ice this weekend with games against Bethel. Friday's action is at Oscar Johnson Arena (7 p.m.). On Saturday, the teams meet in Blaine at 3 p.m.
