The Hamline men's hockey team is inching closer to making the MIAC playoffs for the third straight season. Thanks in part to the yeoman scoring efforts of junior forward Russ Jordan, they took a giant leap in that direction last weekend with a pair of wins against Bethel.Â
On Friday, Jordan, who leads the MIACÂ in four separate scoring categories, had a goal and an assist in the 5-3 win in Blaine. the next night, the teams were tied at 1 in the third period when Jordan, who had fed Mitch McPherson for the game's first goal, Â blasted a shot in the net to give HU the lead. The Pipers eventually won, 3-2, on Jake O'Borsky's OT goal and currently stand in third place in the league with 22 points and a 7-4-1 league standard.Â
Jordan is tops among MIACÂ men pucksters in goals (15), points (28), power play goals (7) and game winners (4). He and his mates will get tested this weekend when HU plays a key two-game series with Augsburg, current holders of second place with 24 points. The teams play Friday night at Oscar Johnson Arena and Saturday in Minneapolis. Both games start at 7 p.m.
