Cody Jahrig got his 2017 men's tennis season off to an excellent start last Saturday. The senior won both his singles matches and went 1-1 in doubles as the Pipers opened under new head coach Julia Courter with an 8-1 loss to Gustavus Adolphus and a 7-2 win over Northwestern (Minn.) in St. Peter.Â
Jahrig picked up the point for the Pipers against the Gusties, winning his No. 6 singles match, 7-6, 6-3. It was the first point a Piper men's tennis team had taken from the league's perennial power in five years. He and David Yanagita came very close in doubles as well, losing their No. 3 match by a slim 9-8.Â
The senior caught his breath and went right back at it against the Eagles. Cory handled his singles opponent by a solid 6-0, 6-1 margin. He and Yanagita also turned ont heir doubles competition for an 8-2 victory.Â
The Pipers head back into MIAC play on Friday, February 17 against St. Olaf. The match will be played in Owatonna, Minn. and is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m.
