The life of a baseball relief pitcher coming into the middle of a game is sometimes anonymous. Some times, it is perilous as well. Just ask Hamline senior Sam Petrick. Last Monday, Petrick entered the game against Wis-Stout in the 5th inning of a 1-1 tie.

The Blue Devils had rwo runners on base. A third appeared on a single but the lead runner stopped at third. Petrick then retired the next batter to end the threat. He allowed two runners to reach base but they didn't score, either.  When the Pipers pushed across a run in the top of the seventh inning and closer Nate Rubbelke  stuffed Stout in the bottom of the frame, the Pipers had a 2-1 win with Petrick the winning pitcher.

It made Petrick 2-0 out of the gate. In 5.1 innings, the lefty has allowed just one run with six strikeouts. Petrick and the Pipers go to work Monday after with a doubleheader against Buena Vista. the first game starts at 4:30 p.m.
