Leadership takes many forms. Some players do it with big statistical numbers. Others do it with a combination of numbers and hard work. Jessica Goldberg, a senior hockey player at Hamline, has always been in the latter category. The Mendota Heights, Minn. native, who played four years of hockey here and a year of lacrosse, will take on a new leadership role this week as co-captain of the first-ever women's USA National Deaf Hockey team.Â
The team, coached by St. Scholastica women's coach Jackie MacMillan, will play a pair of games against Canada April 22-23 in  Amherst, NY.Â
Goldberg, who was born deaf, attended a camp for deaf hockey players for years  near Chicago that was run by the late Jeff Sauer and former Blackhawk great Stan Mikita. She is now a counselor at that camp. She played 85 hockey games in four seasons here, finishing with eight goals and seven  assists.Â
The Mendota Heights, Minn. native is one of seven Minnesotans on the team. Among the others is Libby Majerle, whose mother, Rita, is a Chemistry professor at Hamline.Â
