The way Gabriel Guarin finished his men's tennis season, one could hardly blame him for wanting the next one start as soon as possible.  The junior won a pair of singles matches and a doubles match as the Pipers wrapped up their first season under head coach Julia Courter with 6-3 losses to a pair of playoff teams -- St. John's and Bethel -- and neighbor Macalester.Â
The Bogota, Columbia native, who played in high school at Holy Angels, won his No. 6 singles match against St. John's by solid 6-2 margins. The next day, he swept by bis Bethel opponent by 6-3, 6-4 scores. On Sunday, he partnered with Ben Klimek for a hard fought 8-6 win in a doubles match.  Later, he went to the limit before giving way in his singles match, 4-6, 7-5, 10-8.Â
For the season, Guarin and Klimek were 11-7 as a pair. Guarin also finished 9-7 in singles play. The Pipers ended the year 7-11 overall. Guarin is one of four juniors on the team.
