If his last body of work is any indication, Hamline senior Anthony Tyler is ready for this weekend's MIACÂ Outdoor Track and Field meet at Klas Field. Tyler threw the Discus 169-10 -- the farthest any MIACer has done this spring and the fourth best throw among Division III participants -- to win the event at the Bearcat Invitational last Thursday at Concordia College in St. Paul.
The throw was seven feet farther than Tyler's previous best effort in 2017. A year ago, Tyler was second to teammate Chase Duwenhoegger in this same event. The Forest Lake, Minn. native went 153-1, four inches behind Duwenhoegger's throw. Duwenhoegger is back again as part of a strong three-member contingent in this event (Mitchell Maday is also in the field.)Â
Tyler, however, has been dominant this spring, winning three times in meets, including on his home turf in early April at the HU Invite. He takes on the field on Friday, May 12 with his event scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
