The game -- and a trip to the NCAA Division III tournament -- was on the line for the Hamline lacrosse team last Saturday at Concordia University in Mequon, Wisconsin. The score was tied 9-9 with time running out in regulation when Dana Almquist whipped the ball into the net for a goal. It was the 69th time this season she had done so -- and none were ever bigger.Â
As a result, HU had a 10-9 win and will be heading to Gettysburg, Penn. Saturday to face FDU-Florham in the opening of the NCAA Division III tournament. It's an amazing turn for head coach Karen Heggernes and  the second year program, which will take a 15-4 into the game. Almquist is one of the major reasons why.
Her 69 goals and seven  assists are school records. The Hugo, Minn. junior attacker ranks second in the Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference in goals and fourth in points. She scored 55 times in the school's inaugural season in 2016.
Should the Pipers win on Saturday, they face the host school -- ranked seventh in the country in the latest national poll -- on Sunday.Â
