The first weekend of the 2017 volleyball season had some understandable mixing and matching for Acting Head Coach Maggie Meixl. There were, however, some constants on the floor.
Senior Outside Hitter Cass Bittle was a take charge person as the Pipers went 2-2 in a season-opening tournament at St. Olaf. The Winona, Minn. native led HU with 49 kills in the four matches, an average of 3.27 kills per set. Those numbers placed her third and fifth respectively among all MIAC volleyballers in the early going of the 2017 season.Â
The Winona, Minn. native was particularly sharp with a dozen kills and a .706 hitting percentage (third best single game all-time) in the 3-0 win over North Central on Friday. She followed it up with 14 in  a four set loss later that night to Wis-River Falls. She added 13 against Martin Luther and 10 in the thrilling five set win over Carroll that closed the weekend.
Bittle and the Pipers get their first taste of home court action Wednesday, September 6 when they face Crown at 4 p.m. and a Falcon rematch at 8 p.m. HU plays four matches next weekend in a tournament at Loras.
