At the start of training camp for the HU women's soccer team, one of the biggest questions was who would play in goal. With no returnees on the roster, three new faces were vying for the spot.

For now at least, the answer is clear: Kat Armstrong has the job. The freshman was superb last week in helping Hamline to a 2-1 win at Macalester -- the first such triumph in the  history of the program. She also stood tall in a tense 1-0 loss to Carleton last Saturday at Paterson Field. The lone goal came with slightly over five minutes to play.

The Californian has started all six game for Hamline, which hit the one-third portion of the schedule with a 3-2-1 overall mark and a 1-1 MIAC mark. Armstrong's 31 overall saves is tied for the league lead. She has been remarkably consistent, allowing just one goal in five of the six games she has played. (The lone exception was a 3-2 win at Wis-River Falls)

She was busy early in both games last week, She had five saves in the first half of the win over the Scots and stopped seven in the scoreless first half against the Knights.

HU figures to be tested again this week. They play at undefeated St. Thomas on Sept. 20 before rteturning to Paterson on Sept. 23 to take on Concordia on Sept. 23 at 3:30 p.m.
