It was a blistering hot Saturday  morning at the Roy Griak Invite. So Hamline junior Kyle Mehrhof saw it as the perfect time to turn up the heat on his fellow runners. 

The Coon Rapids, Minn. native set a hot pace, finishing in third place in the 8K race in the time of 28:02.2. That clocking was a scant 13 seconds out of second place in the 76 runner field. 

Mehrhof was near the leaders from the starts. He completed his first 1K in 3:17 and was sitting sixth. By the time he hit the mile mark, he was fifth (in 5:17), moving to third at the 3K mark and staying there the rest of the way.

It was another step towards the road that eventually leads to the MIAC Cross Country Championships in Northfield on October 28. Mehrhof and his mates get back in action on Saturday, October 7 at St. Catherine.
