33 minutes into last Saturday's men's soccer game with St. Olaf, Hamline was looking for a spark. The Oles had grabbed an early 1-0 lead and were stifling the Piper offense.
That's when sophomore forward Adam King took matters into his own hands. Or, to be precise, his feet.
First, King found Trevor Lewellen, who redirected his pass into the net to tie game at 1. Five minutes later, King burst up the left side and took case matters himself to give Hamline a 2-1 lead. That is all the Pipers would need to register a big win -- their first over the Oles in 35 years.
As a result, Hamline is one of three teams tied for second place in the MIAC with nine points. HU is 3-2 in league play and 7-4 overall heading into a Wednesday non-conference game at Viterbo. HU returns to league play Saturday at Augsburg (6-4, 2-2 MIAC) at 1 :00 p..m.
King, who assisted on James Reardon's goal in the 2-1 loss at St. Thomas last Tuesday, is tied for second place in the MIAC in assists (7) and points (17). His 39 total shots leads all attackers.
