It wasn't hard to find Kaley Roberts on a soccer field last week.
Just follow the bouncing ball.
The women's soccer sophomore forward had three goals and an assist as Hamline tied Bethel, 2-2 and defeated St. Mary's, 4-2, to remain in the thick of the MIAC race. With 12 days remaining, HU is 4-3-1 in conference play. That has them in sixth place -- the final playoff spot -- with 13 points. Two future opponents -- St. Catherine and St. Benedict -- are one point ahead of them with Gustvaus Adolphus (another future foe) is just two points behind.
Roberts struck early in both games. At Bethel, she scored 1:42 into the game. In the second half, she set up Ashlee Olson for the other HU goal. On Saturday, she came out of the gate fast as well, scoring 2:22 into the game. After the Cardinals tied the game, Roberts got her second of the afternoon (and sixth in her last five games) to give Hamline they would not surrender.
For the season, the Washington state native has 11 goals and two assists for 24 points. That ties her for second in the MIAC in goals and points.
Hamline, which is 7-5-1 overall, has a non-conference game against St. Scholastica Wednesday, October 17, at Paterson Field. Game time is 3:30 p.m. HU travels to St. Benedict Saturday, October 21, for a 3:30 p.m. start.
