The Big Guy made his presence felt all over TRIA Rink last weekend. Mitch McPherson often seems to play bigger than his 6-2, 210 pound frame. Last weekend was one of those times as the junior scored three goals and set up a fourth as the Pipers defeated two WIAC foes. Hamline scored twice in the third period for a 5-3 win over Wis-Stout on Friday and then got all their goals,in the frame Saturday in a 4-2 win over Wis-Superior.Â
McPherson had a big role both nights. On Friday, his goal with four seconds remaining in the second period tied the game at 3. In the final minutes, the Blue Devils were attacking ferociously when McPherson knocked the puck free for an empty netter to seal the deal. On Saturday, Mitch fed Andrew Paras for the tally that broke a 1-all tie and gave Hamline the lead for good. It was 3-2 late when McPherson blocked a shot and sailed alone form the empty netter to clinch a weekend sweep.
Hamline is now 5-9-1 overall and has a busy week with three MIAC games. St. John's comes to TRIAÂ Tuesday, January 16. The Pipers play St. Olaf this weekend -- Friday, January 19Â in Northfield and Saturday, January 20 at TRIA. Both home games start at 7:00 p.m.
