Nick Powell is rapidly making his final season of men's basketball at Hamline one he will remember for some time to come. The Harmony, Minn. native had a pair of solid games for the Pipers last week. On Wednesday, he had a career high 14 points and added five rebounds and three blocked shots in an 80-60 home court loss to Augsburg. It was the thirds time this season Nick had come off the bench to deliver a double digit scoring game. In this case, it improved his points per game average by half a point.Â
Last Saturday, he had his first career start on Senior Day against Gustavus Adolphus. The Filmore Central HS alum responded with nine points, three rebounds and a steal as the Pipers roared back from a 15-point first half deficit to overrun the Gusties, 85-74.Â
Powell and the Pipers had little time to rest on their plaudits. They have a pair of away games this week -- at Macalester on Monday, February 5 and at Bethel on Wednesday, February 7. Both games begin at 7:00 p.m. Hamline is 10-11 overall and 6-10 in MIAC games.Â
