Most softball hitters who hadn't played a game in 12 days might need a couple of at-bats to get back in the swing of things.
Hamline junior Aubree Douglas is not one of those players.Â
The California native shook off a 12-day hiatus forced by weather to drill six hits in seven at bats Sunday and help the Pipers sweep away St. Mary's 3-1 and 6-4, in a twinbill played early Sunday morning in Rochester. Minn.
In the first game, Douglas' two RBI single in the sixth inning snapped a 1-all tie and lifted HU to the win.Â
in the nightcap, Douglas kickstarted the two run sixth inning outburst that severed a 4-all tie with a single -- her sixth hit of the day. When all was said and done, Douglas' batting average had ballooned 81 points to a team high .432
If Mother Nature cooperates, the softballers (9-7 overall, 2-0 MIAC) have games slated at St. Benedict (April 12), home against St. Olaf (April 14) and at Concordia (April 15). No matter when they finally get to play again, it is clear Douglas will be ready to swing a big stick.Â
