Waiting 20 days between games did nothing to hurt Nick Kukurich's batting eye. The senior shortstop was on base six times in nine at bats, dirving in four runs and scoring three times as the Piper baseball team split a doubleheader with Concordia April 19, losing 6-3 before exploding for an 11-2 win.
The Appleton, Wis. native has been on a hitting tear lately with a six-game streak that has raised his average batting 124 points .298.
Nick went 1-for-3 in the opener of the twinbill played at Northwestern University. In the second game, he got the offense rolling in his first at-bat, rifling a two RBI single to cap a three run first inning. In the sixth inning, he doubled to help another three-run outburst along. Kukurich then iced matters with a booming two RBI homer to left center in the eighth inning.
The split in the first MIAC games of 2018 upped the Pipers' record to 6-10 overall.
If Mother Nature cooperates and the field can be cleared, Kukurich and his teammates are scheduled to play at Macalester on Wednesday, April 18. Game time is 2:30 p.m.
