Last weekend's Concordia Snownami Open track/Field meet gave a good example of the depth the Hamline men's Track/Field team has when it comes to throwers. There were the familiar names -- Eric Dols went five farther than he had the week before in The Hammer and became just the second MIACer ever to pass the 200 foot mark and Travis Jacobson was the top collegiate thrower in the Shot Put.
The new Kid on The Block last week was freshman Joe Martin. The Lakeville, Minn. native threw the Discus 148-2 to win the event and move to the top of the league's charts for the 2018 Outdoor season. (Teammate Mitchell Maday was a close second at 147-4.) Martin also fared well in the Shot Put, heaving it 44-5.50 to finish seventh in Moorhead.
It's all with an eye towards next month's MIAC Outdoor Track/Field meet at Carleton. This week, HU heads to Macalester for a meet on Thursday, April 26. Next week, it's the annual meet on the UnSaintly at Klas Field and then it's on to the MIAC meet and, hopefully, beyond for Hamline's talented crew of throwers that now has a freshman to challenge the upperclassmen.
