No. 4 was No. 1 when it came to tackles Saturday night for the Hamline football team. Luke Trudell showed up to greet Macalester's ball carriers all night at Klas Field. The senior linebacker had 15 tackles -- 12 of them solo stops -- for the Pipers in their 29-27 loss to the Scots. Luke had three assists as well. The solo and total numbers of tackles are career highs.

The Germantown, Wis. native leads the MIAC with 18 solo tackles, is second in sacks (2) and fourth in overall tackles (including assists) at 21. This follows a pattern set last year when Luke led the Pipers and was third in solo tackles (44), overall tackles (90) and tackles per game (9.0).

The Pipers will be looking for more of the same this Saturday, September 15 in the conference opener at No. 3 St. Thomas. Game time at O'Shaughnessy Stadium is 1:00 p.m.
