It's an impressive first for HU men's tennis player Jake Trondson.
Trondson got the new tennis season off to a blazing start Monday. The St. Paul, Minn. native became Hamline's first tennis All-American ever when he defeated Carleton's Leo Vithoontien, 7-5, 7-6 (9) in the championship match of the ITA tournament in St. Peter, Minn.
The win sends Trondson to the national tournament which will take place October 11-14 in Rome, Georgia.
Trondson, a junior who was seeded fourth in the draw, advanced to the final with four straight set victories. The most notable of these was the semifinal win over No. 2 seed Patrick Whaling of Gustavus Adolphus.
Last spring, Trondson went 12-4 in No. 1 singles. For that effort, he earned a place on the All-Conference team. He and teammate Matt Seracki also earned standing on the AC Doubles team as well.
