In the biggest race of the women's cross country season, Madeline Dopp was ready and stepped up to the occasion. The senior kicked things in gear as she went along, finishing in fifth place in a time of 22:49 at the MIAC Championships held at St. Olaf October 27. It was the highest finish by a HU women's harrier in eight years.
Dopp started slowly, running the first mile in six minutes and was in 24th place. She improved steadily from there. By the time she reached the 3300 Meter mark, she had moved to 12th place. She was up to sixth by the three mile mark and roared to the finish from there, finishing just .2 out of second place.
The Ogilvie, Minn. native was one of two Pipers (Helen Dolan, who was eighth, was the other) to earn All-Conference honors at the meet.
The Pipers will run in the Fall Finale this weekend in Collegeville and then take on a rugged field at the NCAA Regional Nov. 10 in Waverly, Iowa.
