Cross country running is often a lonely training experience as the runner works against their past efforts in a bid to improve times. Bernadette Hayden's last CC race of the 2018 season showed that perseverance can, indeed, be rewarded.

The Onalaska, Wash.  junior finished a remarkable season with a 19th place showing at the NCAA D-III Regional meet last Saturday in Waverly, Iowa -- one of three Pipers in the top 20. Hamline's ninth place team showing was its best finish ever at this meet.

Hayden's time of 22:50.1 for the 6K course was a 41 seconds improvement over the same length just two weeks earlier at the MIAC meet. It was nearly a minute faster than her time at this same meet a year ago.

The next CC season is just 10 months away.
