Friends and foes alike agree on this subject: when Hamline's No. 20 is one the ice for the women's hockey team, it is hard to take your eyes off her. No. 20 is Bre Simon, who became Hamline's all-time leading pointgetter in less than two seasons. In her third season, she something rarely done by a junior -- she was named the best women's D-III hockey player in the land.
Simon, who finished the season with 27 goals and 37 assists to lead all in scoring for the second straight year, was named winner of the Laura Hurd Award, symbolic of the best women's icer in the D-III ranks. The Elk River, Minn. native was also named a first team All-American for the second year in a row and was a major reason why the Pipers became the first MIAC team ever to advance to a national championship game.Â
HU defeated St. Thomas, 3-0, in the semifinals before falling to Plattsburgh State, 4-0, in the championship game. The UST win was the team's 23rd of the season, breaking the school mark set last season. In three seasons here, she is averaging over a point a game with 52 goals and 74 assists in 115 outings.Â
And next season is just seven months away.
