Nolan Schoonveld was a busy ... and productive fellow last week for the hamline baseball team.Â
The senior hit, fielded and threw with precision as the Pipers got into the swing of playing baseball in Minnesota with five games.Â
At the plate, Noah went 8-for-20 and struck out just once. In the process, he raised his batting average 20 points to .337. In the field, he handled 38 chances flawlessly at first base and on the mound.
Ironically, his best performance ended up in a no decision. That was on Sunday when the righthander threw 11 scoreless innings for the Pipers against Augsburg at Parade Stadium. Nolan finally gave way to Jimmy Skroch, who added two more scoreless innings and picked up the win in a 1-0, 13-inning classic. Schoonveld had a hit in that 13th inning rally and then scored twice in the second game, a 6-1 win.Â
If Mother Nature can be tamed, Schoonveld and the Pipers have a pair of games at Concordia April 9 and then hope to open their CHS slate against Wis-Stoutnon April 11.Â
