A combination of rain, hail and snow made for less than ideal weather for soccer on October 12 when the Piper women's team hosted Wisconsin-Stout at Paterson Field.Â
The weather didn't faze freshman forward Cailey Schmitt one bit as she used her head and her legs to have a hand in all three goals in the Pipers' 3-0 win. The freshman, who leads the team in points with 13, opened the scoring in the 34th minute, heading a Carin Currier feed for a goal.
In the second half, Schmitt did more damage and put the Blue Devils out of business. First, she took a Gaby Diaz pass, slipped past a defender and laced a shot into the net for her second tally of the day. Three minutes later, Schmitt went into a giving mode. Her corner kick found Anna Browne, who headed it home to wrap up the scoring and improve the Pipers' season standard to 5-8-0 overall.Â
Schmitt and her teammates have several days to prepare for their next encounter. That would be Saturday, October 19 at St. Thomas Game time is 3:30 p.m.
